Mud Pools & Hot Springs
18.10.2011 - 18.10.2011 30 °C
Up at 4:30am for a nice little run with Jayne before a typical Fiji breakfast of toast and fruit which I was getting quite used to by now.
Jayne decided it would be a good idea to swim to another island which looked like about 1 mile away so I decided to Kayak next to her with my new Norwegian friend Guro to keep her safe. Getting over took 30 mins and getting back took over an hour due to the currents and wind, but we all made it back safe and sound.
Another long coach journey with a few stop offs and we arrived at the mud pools and hot springs. Now, I wasnt exactly expecting a 5 star spa resort but oh my days did we all laugh when we saw what was in store. I can only describe it as a hole in someones field approx 10 feet square which looked like a giant dirty puddle. Reluctantly we all got in and it was absolutely disgusting. Soft black sticky mud full of leaves and twigs up to our knees which stank of something I cant even describe.
We tentatively frollicked about for a bit and was glad when Kay said time for the hot springs. Now you can probably guess from the mud pool experience that the hot springs was Fiji style too, so basically a slightly less muddy and warmer hole in the field. Ah well, I guess atleast it was an authentic Fiji experience!
Back on the buss again and we were glad to arrive at Smugglers Cove again for our last night. The dorms at Smugglers were brilliant, easily the most organised, clean and comfortable so far.
We spent the night with Crazy Ben and the rest of the gang drinking rum and telling jokes by the beach front. Jayne did a worm off with 2 other guys in front of the other guests at the hotel and we did shots of rum through snorkells until quite late.
I also some how got involved in a firework shootout on the beach. To do this we each had a roman candle stick firework that shoots 10 shots out. We then light them in the middle of the beach before running 10 paces in opposite directions and turning to try and shoot each other with them! I hit one of the guys and also got shot in the side by someone. It felt like getting hit by a red hot paintball and it managed to burn a hole in my t-shirt and leave a burn/bruise on my ribs where it hit, but all in the name of fun Fiji style!!
